Arch Medium Student Competitions has unveiled the winner of Paris Market Lab : A New Experience for Your Senses. The first prize goes to the team GANKO formed by Guido Tesio and Nicola Munaretto from Politecnico di Milano of Italy.
Here is some words from the jury regarding the winner;
"The jury particularly appreciated the attitude of the winning proposal, taking into account the current European and architectural context. The fundamental decision of the proposal is to preserve and reuse the existing building, to include the new use that the contest proposed. The jury's decision has nothing to do with heritage conservation and the impossibility of creating modern architecture in the historic city centres. However they took into account the use of the existing resources as a clear process of rehabitation.
Preserving the existing building and creating a new volume that introduces changes in the classical composition of the building and in turn generates a relationship with the surroundings and the city. The top volume introduces a new dimension in the old town, reflecting the roof tops and the Parisian sky. During the day this new volume disappears into the sky and at night, when the market stops being the protagonist, the Paris Market Lab comes alive."
GANKO takes home 2,500 Euros + Publication of the project in the TC Cuadernos magazine, Future Arquitecturas, SUMMA+ and WA+wettbewerbeaktuell + 1 year of subscription to the ON DiseƱo magazine + Exhibition at the Architecture University of Barcelona (ETSAB) and Buenos Aires (UBA) + Publication on several architecture Blogs.
Congratulation!
